Cataract Treatment

A cataract is a serious condition in the lens of the eye causing blurred vision. A cataract is caused by proteins in the eye breaking down and are mostly seen in older patients or people with diabetes. Symptoms of cataracts include blurred spots on the eye, dulled color, and sensitivity to glare. Changing your prescription can initially make the blur in your eye caused by the cataract leave, but the cataract will continue to get worse, which will require surgery. If you suspect that you have a cataract, talk to your eye doctor about it. They will perform several tests to conclude if you have a cataract. They may do the common eye chart test where you have to read a chart from a distance to test your vision. They may do a glare test or test your pupil dilation. The most common type of treatment for cataracts is called phacoemulsification. In this process, your surgeon takes a small microscope to make a small incision. They then use and ultrasound probe to dissolve the lens. They will then insert an artificial lens, where you can then see clearly through it. There are several different types of surgery that can be performed. All of them include removing your lens and replacing it with a new one. It sounds painful, but it will be better for you because after time, even glasses can’t help your blurred vision when you have a cataract. After you have surgery, you will be required to have checkups often so your doctor can monitor your improvements. Many people notice a difference in their vision within the first few days after their surgery.
